Signs of Autism

Autism is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by:

  • social disability
  • communication problems
  • mental disorders
  • repetitive behavior

Because Autism is a spectrum disorder, it can range from very small to very severe and occurs in all races, economic well-being and age groups. Men have four times affcted autism than women. Before the age of 1 or 2 years, some children seems normal and suddenly, they lose their social skills and previously acquired language. This is known as the progressive form of autism.

SYMPTOMS OF AUTISTIC CHILDREN

  • not responding in their own name
  • to avoid eye contact
  • not a smile when you smile at them
  • very irritated if they do not like a particular taste, smell or sound
  • repeating the same phrases
  • not as talkative as other children
  • Repetitive movements, such as clapping hands, waving fingers, or body language

  • does not seem to understand what others think or feel
  • taking things in stride - for example, they may not understand words like "broken leg"
  • finding it difficult to make friends or to choose to be alone
  • having a deep interest in certain subjects or activities
  • finding it hard to say how they feel
